Biography
EARLY LIFE
Abdulrasheed Bello, known professionally as JJC Skillz, was born on April 4, 1977, in Kano, Nigeria, to a Muslim father and a Christian mother. He was raised in a religiously diverse household and attended Islamiyah school during his early years. At the age of 14, in 1991, he relocated from Kano, Nigeria, to London, United Kingdom, following his father's passing. In London, he developed an interest in hip-hop and rap music.
CAREER
JJC Skillz began producing music at age 16. In the early 2000s, he formed the Nigerian hip-hop collective JJC & The 419 Squad in London, which won the KORA All Africa Music Award for Best African Group in 2004. The group released their debut album 'Atide' in 2002. He also released solo albums 'African Dream' in 2011 and 'Skillz' in 2015. In the early 2010s, he transitioned from music to filmmaking, permanently relocating to Nigeria around 2011. He co-directed the blockbuster 'Omo Ghetto: The Saga' (2020) and directed the action thriller 'Hakeem: Seeking Justice' (2025). He also co-produced and directed the television drama series 'Industreet' (2017) and directed multiple episodes of the comedy series 'Jenifa's Diary'. He founded the production company Big Boyz Entertainment.
PERSONAL LIFE
Prior to his marriage to Funke Akindele, JJC Skillz fathered three children (Tamira, Benito, and Josiah) from three different relationships. He married Nigerian actress and producer Funke Akindele in May 2016 in London. They welcomed twin sons in December 2018. On June 30, 2022, Bello announced their separation after six years of marriage. In March 2023, he reportedly remarried secretly to Falilat Raji, an Ebira woman from Kogi State, in Kano, Nigeria. He publicly announced his reversion to Islam in January 2023, having privately embraced the faith on July 10, 2022.
