Storyline
In Obianuju, Obianuju loves her husband Maurice Mazi, but her village-style gestures embarrass him. On his birthday she wakes him with hired musicians and a fufu cake she calls 'loi loi,' and he pushes her away. The next day he complains to a friend at his office. Maurice gives her dress money, but she sends it to the village for blocks and wears an old wrapper to dinner, where she embarrasses him so much he leaves. She barges into his office with food, sings, calls him Odogwu, and argues with his secretary. He finds her walking home because she refused a cab fare and orders her into the car. Her old village friend Ngbechi, now calling herself Tina, moves in. Tina tells Obianuju to dress better and appreciate her husband, but Obianuju says Maurice loves her as she is. Maurice points out that Tina is educated and asks why Obianuju never bettered herself, and Obianuju cries that she was never given the chance. Obianuju keeps catching Maurice and Tina close, holding each other's legs, or sharing wine. She accuses Tina of trying to take her husband, throws her luggage outside, and Maurice brings it back. Maurice's father tells Obianuju most of the problems are her fault and she must change, and he warns Maurice not to humiliate her. Tina and Maurice decide to make Obianuju believe she is about to lose Maurice so she will improve. The staged closeness and outings break her down, and she returns home crying to the security guard, who advises school and pleasing her husband. Obianuju agrees to change. She pleads with Maurice to forgive her, says she is ready for school, and begs him not to take 'loi loi' away completely. Maurice promises to send her to school. Weeks later he drops her off, they share dinners, and a birthday party is held with balloons and guests. Obianuju thanks him publicly, apologizes for the past, and promises to get better. Maurice apologizes too, saying he failed to correct her with love, and asks her to never stop calling him 'Mazie.'
