Storyline
In Her Turning Point, the film opens with Donald, a Lagos-based professional, bringing home Amaka after his mother arranges their marriage. Amaka enters the modern household eager to please but Donald immediately belittles her origins and forbids her from using appliances. He demands freshly cooked meals three times daily and constantly reminds her that he rescued her from poverty. His friend Cope encourages this misogyny and they bond over objectifying women at clubs. Amaka seeks counsel from her mother, who urges endurance and prayer while citing the shame of Chioma's failed marriage. Donald's abuse intensifies as he mocks her intimacy and berates her for serving leftovers. Pushed to a breaking point by relentless degradation and inspired by bullying her family faces in the village, Amaka secretly trains in boxing under a coach who teaches her to channel pain into discipline. The tension erupts when Amaka confronts Donald with her newfound physical confidence, repeatedly overpowering him in violent but controlled encounters that leave him injured and humiliated. She forces a role reversal, compelling him to cook, clean, and wash clothes by hand, mirroring the exact demands he placed on her. Donald, now experiencing the exhaustion and helplessness he inflicted, breaks down in prayer, acknowledging his cruelty and begging God to restore the woman he married before he turned her into this. In a raw, tearful reconciliation, both admit their faults as Donald confesses he took her for granted and mistreated her while Amaka reveals her aggression was a desperate attempt to make him feel her pain. They embrace, pledging mutual respect and care, and the film closes with a peaceful domestic scene. Donald's friend Kube visits, Amaka playfully feigns a boxing attack before serving a shared meal, and the household settles into a new dynamic built on equality and genuine partnership.
