Alex works as a driver for wealthy Chief Larry, whose son Elvis is about to take over the business. Alex has given up his own education and inheritance to support his girlfriend Brenda and her younger sister Lizzy after their parents died, and the three live modestly while Brenda serves in the NYSC program. Chief Larry retires, and Elvis keeps Alex on as his personal driver. After Brenda brings home kilishi and she and Lizzy are hospitalized with food poisoning, Elvis covers their medical bills and offers them a comfortable apartment in his boys' quarters. The gesture deepens his connection to them, and he becomes infatuated with Brenda after an accidental glimpse of her in a towel. He secretly arranges a scholarship for Alex to study in Canada on the condition that Alex tells no one. Elvis takes Brenda to Lagos to process her redeployment, and he arranges for the hotel to have no room so she is forced to share his suite. He hands her a lucrative job offer and a substantial sum of money, then makes blatant advances. Brenda, overwhelmed by the offer and the pressure, gives in despite her guilt over Alex's sacrifices. To secure his hold, Elvis tells Brenda about Alex's secret Canadian applications and passport, so she sees Alex as a man ready to abandon her and Lizzy. Heartbroken, Brenda accepts Elvis's marriage proposal, moves in with him, and cuts off contact with Alex and Lizzy. Alex is devastated and refuses to give up on her, but Lizzy, enraged, confronts her sister and tearful accusations follow. Growing desperate, Elvis has Alex arrested and thrown into a police cell. Elvis visits him in prison and offers an EU visa and a blank cheque to leave the country forever, but Alex refuses and lashes out in anger. Meanwhile, Brenda begins to see the truth, though she remains trapped by her choices. Elvis plans a boat outing for them, and the excursion ends in a violent accident that sends them into the water.
