Band Of Five: Episode 4

In Band Of Five, Kofi approaches his ex-girlfriend outside her home with compliments and a plea for a small favour, saying times are hard. She tells him to spare the compliments, says their relationship is over, and turns him down because she cannot support his lifestyle. A neighbour passing by sees him and learns he is only the woman's ex-boyfriend. Kofi keeps calling after her as she leaves for the supermarket. Ivy has been trying to reach her boyfriend. When he walks in, she confronts him about ignored calls and a rumour that he went on a date with their co-worker Zara. Jude summons Ike for a private meeting and makes the blunt case that Cass Editorial is in trouble. He reveals an offer to acquire the magazine at an amount no one else would pay, but Ike insists the decision belongs to Cassandra and leaves to discuss it with her. At a hospital, Dr Jimmy tells Florence that she has stage two pancreatic cancer. Treatment could buy her years, but Florence, a single mother, says she cannot afford it. In a betting shop, a gambler believes his final football bet is about to pay off until the referee disallows a decisive goal and the ticket fails. Florence stops at a roadside kiosk and buys alcohol from Baba Ibeji, who teases her about her daughter's warning. At home she sits on her sofa holding a medical document and cries, asking why this is happening to her. Her daughter comes in and sees that she has been drinking, so she begs Florence to remember the promise to stop. Florence turns on the girl and denies any such promise. Ivy chooses to ease her own strain for now, apologises for summoning her boyfriend in anger, invites him to sit, and goes to get him a homemade burger. Kofi's ex keeps walking, and Jude waits to hear back about the offer. Her daughter stands helplessly before her, and Florence remains on the couch with the medical report.
