EARLY LIFE

Uchenna Mbunabo was born on September 12, 1971, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He grew up in a commercially active city known for its markets and entrepreneurial spirit. His family valued education and hard work. As a teenager he became involved in the sale and rental of DVDs and video discs in Anambra. He later opened a rental shop, which gave him early insight into audience preferences and the film distribution business. This grassroots experience connected him with producers and industry players and laid the foundation for his later career in filmmaking. He has a sister named Jennifer Mbunabo; other details about his parents remain private.

CAREER

Uchenna Mbunabo entered Nollywood in the early 2000s. He started by working as an extra, set assistant and production assistant on various movie and television sets. This hands-on experience allowed him to learn the practical side of filmmaking and to work alongside established talents. His breakthrough came in 2007 with the film My Everlasting Love, which he wrote and also acted in. From that point he steadily built a large body of work. He has produced well over 230 films (some industry reports place the figure higher, with credits continuing into 2025–2026). He has also written more than 20 screenplays and frequently serves as casting director and executive producer. His films are mainly in the drama, romance and family genres. He is the founder and CEO of One & Two Film Production (also referred to as One & Two Films or Scene One and Two Productions) and is associated with Uchenna Mbunabo TV and related channels. These platforms have become major digital distribution outlets for Nollywood content. His YouTube presence (including Uchenna Mbunabo TV) has grown to millions of subscribers and helps take Nigerian stories to audiences across Africa and the diaspora. He has also been linked with Moreplex TV. Notable credits include Celebrity Marriage (2017), The Honeymoon Trip (2018), Show Me Love (2021), Ebere’s Ordeal (2020) and many more recent titles such as Love at the Gate, My Mother’s Daughter, Extra Large, For Her Sake and others. He has worked with a wide range of Nollywood actors and is known for helping launch and develop new talents through casting and production opportunities. He has received recognition including Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Producer (reported in 2007 and 2009) and a nomination for Best Video Director at the Nigeria Movie Awards in 2014. He continues to produce steadily and expand his digital footprint with multiple YouTube channels focused on Nollywood content.

PERSONAL LIFE

Uchenna Mbunabo is married to Mrs. Mbunabo. The couple has two children — a son and a daughter. He keeps his family life relatively private and does not frequently publicize personal details about his wife or children. He is of Igbo ethnicity and is described as a Christian. Outside filmmaking he is involved in agribusiness and is reported to operate a poultry farm in the Nsukka area of Enugu State. On his Instagram he describes himself as a Farmer, FilmMaker and BusinessMan.

Uchenna Mbunabo is regarded as one of the more prolific and consistent producers in contemporary Nollywood, especially in the romantic-drama and family-story space. His combination of traditional production experience, large-scale digital distribution, talent development and business interests (including farming) has made him a multi-faceted figure in the industry.
