Raymond Ofula

EARLY LIFE

Raymond Ofula was born and raised in Kisumu County, Kenya, in a Luo family with strong oral storytelling traditions. He became involved in drama during his school years, performing in plays that depicted village life and family dynamics. His professional acting journey began in 1973 when he was cast in the play The Queen and the Rebels at the Kenya National Theatre, directed by James Falkland. He has described acting as starting as a hobby in early adulthood before becoming a full career after early retirement from other employment.

CAREER

Ofula has worked consistently for more than four decades across stage, radio, television, and film. Early work included theatre at the Kenya National Theatre and voice/drama roles associated with KBC. PERSONAL LIFE

Ofula was married to Anne Ofula, a well-known Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) journalist and presenter. He has spoken warmly of their relationship, describing her as loving, supportive, and possessing both outer and inner beauty. Anne passed away in September 2008 after sustaining injuries in a taxi accident on Ngong Road. Ofula has continued to honour her memory publicly on anniversaries and birthdays, stating that some memories cannot be erased. He maintains a relatively private personal life and is known for staying fit and active well into later years, often sharing glimpses of his disciplined gym routine.

His career bridges the early days of Kenyan theatre and television with contemporary international streaming productions.
