EARLY LIFE

Gerald Langiri was born on 29 July 1985 in Mombasa, Kenya. He spent the first half of his childhood there before moving to Nairobi at the age of 11 when his mother was transferred. He has described the cultural shift between the more communal, conversational coastal lifestyle of Mombasa and the faster-paced, more individualistic Nairobi as significant. His interest in performance began early. Inspired by drama teachers, he participated in school plays, skits, solo verses, choral verses, public speaking, and other arts activities from primary school through high school. Art and craft were among his favourite subjects. After high school he wanted to pursue acting but, like many aspiring Kenyan performers at the time, lacked a clear entry path. He therefore studied Computing and Internet Systems at the University of Huddersfield in the UK and later worked as an IT Billing Manager in the telecommunications sector (including at Flashcom Limited).

CAREER

Gerald Langiri is an award-winning Kenyan actor, casting director, and locations professional who has worked across film and television in East Africa since 2011. He is known for versatility on screen and significant influence behind the camera. Acting: He made his professional screen debut in 2011 as a lawyer (Wakili Langiri) in the Swahili series Mashtaka (Citizen TV) and as Don the lawyer in Mali (NTV, 2011–2012). He quit his IT job during this period to pursue acting full-time. His notable films include House of Lungula (2013), Stay (KTN), Fundimentals (Historia Films), VEVE, Papa Shirandula, Santalal, State House, Maisha, Rosa, Orphan, You Can’t Hack This, Run Honeymooners, Blind Fame, Runaway Groom, short films, and guest appearances. He hosted the 13-part comic web talk show In the Forest (2013, Historia Films), which helped spark Kenya’s early web-series movement. He also directed the short film The Bigger Man (2nd runners-up, U-Film-It competition 2012). Casting & Production: Langiri transitioned strongly into casting and production roles. He served as Casting Director on the long-running Maisha Magic telenovela Selina (Multan Production; ~6 years / 970 episodes), where he also handled locations and production management. Other major casting credits include 40 Sticks (Netflix), Nafsi (Netflix), Kina (multi-season adaptation of The River, Showmax/Maisha Magic), Mo-Faya (Netflix), KIU, Pink Ladies, Kipkemboi, The Real Housewives of Nairobi, commercials (Barclays, Dettol, Vodacom Tanzania, NipNap, etc.), and projects such as Bobo, Adam to Eve, The Dog, Prefects, and Tuki?. He has worked as Locations Scout/Manager across numerous productions and is recognised for practical on-ground expertise in Kenya and East Africa. Industry Building & Awards: In 2012 he launched actors.co.ke, a pioneering platform documenting Kenya’s acting industry, providing talent visibility, news, and opportunities. It earned nominations and awards including Best Niche Market Blog (African Blogger Awards) and Best Film Blogger/Journalist (Africa Film Development Awards). He served as elected secretary of the Kenya Oscars Committee (2012) and on the Kalasha Awards organising committee. He has received professional training from Hollywood coaches (David Morin, Neil Schell) and One Fine Day Films. Awards include Kalasha Best Supporting Actor (2014), Casting Director of the Year – Kenya (Media Innovator / MEA Business Awards), and Most Dedicated Casting Director – Kenya (Global Excellence / Lux Life Awards). He lectures and mentors at the Multichoice Talent Factory and has served as a judge for the Africa Monologue Challenge.

PERSONAL LIFE

Langiri proposed publicly to his long-term girlfriend Lyne at the 2013 launch of the film House of Lungula. In a 2016 interview he confirmed they were still together and expecting their first child, noting that family preferences for a large wedding had delayed formal plans while they saved. He has since been described as a father. He generally keeps detailed personal and family matters private while remaining active professionally in Nairobi. He is a member of the Kenya Actors Guild (KAG) and the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK).

Langiri is a multi-hyphenate professional who bridges performance, casting, locations, talent development, and industry advocacy. He has contributed to the growth of Kenyan web series, streaming content (Netflix, Showmax), and long-form television. His work emphasises discovering and elevating East African talent. He continues to act selectively while focusing heavily on casting, locations, mentoring, and production support. Based in Nairobi, he remains one of Kenya’s most recognised and reliable screen professionals with over 50 productions and more than a decade of industry leadership.
