Biography

EARLY LIFE

Chidi Ihezie Okafor was born on September 19, 1980, in Lagos to parents from Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State. She is the fourth of ten children. Growing up in a large family, her childhood ambition was to become a professional newscaster, inspired by broadcasters like Ruth Benemesia Opia and Eugenia Abu. She completed her primary and secondary education in Lagos before pursuing tertiary education at Federal Polytechnic Oko, where she earned a National Diploma in Mass Communication.

CAREER

Chidi began her acting journey in the early 1990s. While on industrial training at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Aba, veteran actor Davis Ofor (Clarus) gave her her first role. She made her professional film debut around 2000 in Dilemma and gained significant recognition with roles in Authority (alongside Patience Ozokwor and Charles Okafor) and the Igbo-language film Igbudu with Nkem Owoh. She rose to prominence in the early 2000s with standout performances in films such as, Billionaires’ Club (2003), My In-Law, I Am in Love, Oh My Baby, Apology, Violent Clash / The Final Clash, Who Is My Friend. She has appeared in over 100 Nollywood films and is known for her emotional depth, versatility, and powerful crying scenes. In 2018, she transitioned into gospel music, releasing her debut 10-track album Limitless Jesus. She performs live at churches, events, and conferences. She has also served as Special Adviser (SA) on HMO/Insurance to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President.

PERSONAL LIFE

Chidi is a devout Christian. She married her longtime friend on December 28, 2003, and they have four children. She took a sabbatical from acting at the peak of her career in the mid-2000s to focus on raising her family. She has spoken about balancing her career with family life, crediting her supportive husband and faith for helping her manage acting, music, and motherhood. She maintains a relatively private personal life while sharing faith-based and motivational content publicly.

Chidi is active as a film producer, brand influencer, and motivational speaker. She received a chieftaincy title (Ijele Nwanyi) in Obowo, Imo State.
