Storyline

Noma graduates from law school and Chief arrives with drummers and an Eze Dibia to pray for her success in the ancestral way. The cultural display embarrasses Noma and sparks a fierce argument about modernity versus tradition. Chief reminds her he funded her education when her mother could not and insists he will not change his ways. Noma asserts her identity as a lawyer who will not abandon her career. She confides in her friend Chika and her mother and both urge compromise but Chief remains adamant that a woman's place is beside her husband. Noma secures a job earning five hundred thousand naira monthly and Chief reluctantly accepts but imposes a condition that she assume full financial responsibility for her personal upkeep. Her car breaks down and Chief refuses to help citing her declared independence. Meanwhile Chief suffers a catastrophic business loss of billions in a failed investment and becomes devastated and secretive. Noma senses his distress but is shut out. When her mother's village house is destroyed by rain Chief initially refuses financial aid and tells Noma to seek a salary advance. Her mother confronts his rigidity and demands he honor his obligation and Chief sends one million naira directly to his mother-in-law. Noma uses her salary advance and a loan to inject capital into Chief's struggling ventures and the investment pays off as money begins returning. Chief's businesses recover and humbled he acknowledges her foresight and the power of partnership. He admits he now understands the value of a working wife. In a heartfelt gathering with both mothers Chief praises Noma's determination and credits her with saving him from ruin. The couple reconciles fully and embraces a new dynamic of mutual support and shared finances with Chief declaring he will wash her plates himself. In their bedroom they laugh and tease in a blend of English Pidgin and Igbo.
