Biography

EARLY LIFE

Ngozi Ezeonu was born on May 23, 1965, in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, to parents Dennis O. Ikpelue and Ezenwanyi Joy Nonyelum Ikpelue, in a low-income family with six siblings. She hails from Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State. Ezeonu completed her primary and secondary education in Owerri before pursuing a diploma in journalism at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos. Her early passion for communication led her into broadcasting, but her interest in acting emerged during her journalistic pursuits.

CAREER

Ngozi Ezeonu is a veteran Nollywood actress, former journalist, model, and entrepreneur, renowned for portraying strong matriarchal figures, queens, and authoritative women in over 200 films. Before acting, she worked as a journalist and presenter at Radio Lagos and Eko FM. Her Nollywood debut came in 1993 when director Zeb Ejiro cast her as Nkechi, the antagonist's best friend, in the Igbo blockbuster Nneka the Pretty Serpent (1994), followed by her breakout role as Thelma, a high-society mistress, in Glamour Girls (1994). She has starred in hits like Adesuwa (2012), My Sister My Love (2006), A Time to Love 2 (2007), Tears and Glory, Crazy Princess, and Ada Ife, often collaborating with legends such as Pete Edochie, Liz Benson, and Patience Ozokwor. Ezeonu's accolades include a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards (2012) for Adesuwa, Nollywood Movies Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (2013)

PERSONAL LIFE

Ngozi Ezeonu was previously married to Edwin Ezeonu for over two decades, with whom she shares four children: daughters Ogechukwu Edwina Ezeonu and Melveen Ezeonu, and sons Chidera Ezeonu (a Nollywood actor) and Ifeanyi Ezeonu. The couple divorced amicably, maintaining a cordial co-parenting relationship, and Ezeonu often shares family moments, including her daughter's wedding, on social media while keeping details private. Standing at 5 feet 6 inches (168 cm) with measurements of 36-28-36 inches, she underwent significant weight loss in 2012-2013, sparking health concerns that she addressed publicly as a personal transformation. Ezeonu emphasizes professionalism, respect, and cultural values in her public persona.

Ngozi Ezeonu has been a vocal advocate for industry standards, mentoring emerging talents and promoting Nollywood's growth through her roles that highlight Nigerian societal issues. In recent years, she has embraced digital platforms and high-production web series to reach younger audiences. Recent X discussions in November 2025 praise her timeless beauty, recent on-set appearances with Uju Okoli, and cultural impact, with users calling her a "Nollywood icon" and sharing nostalgic posts. At 60 years old, she continues to inspire as the "Queen Mother of Nollywood."
