Moses Ebere

EARLY LIFE

Moses Ebere was born in Isiala Ngwa, Abia State, Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Benin. Colleagues recalled meeting him in the 1980s as a skilled editor, well before the full emergence of the modern Nollywood video-film industry.

CAREER

Moses Ebere began his career as a film editor in the formative years of Nigerian cinema and television. He is credited with editing some of the earliest and most influential Nollywood productions, including the pioneering 1992 film Living in Bondage (produced by NEK Video Links / Kenneth Nnebue) and Glamour Girls. He also edited Nigeria’s long-running television series Ripples (produced by Zeb Ejiro). These credits place him among the technical pioneers who helped shape the look and pacing of early video films and TV drama. He later transitioned into directing and became known for a substantial body of video films in the 2000s and 2010s. Notable directing credits include the Spanner series (Spanner in 2002, Spanner Goes to Jail and Spanner 3 in 2004), Pirates of the Night (2009), Miss Queen (2012), Yellow Fever (2015), My Driver (2004), Love Alone and its sequel (2010), Secret Shadows and sequel (2010), Dons in Sakawa (2009), Yankee Girls and sequel (2008), Battle of Indemnity and sequel (2007), The Next Election and sequel (2007), Connected Firm (2006), and many others. IMDb lists dozens of directing credits spanning action, drama, and other popular genres of the era. He continued working as both director and editor throughout his career and was still active professionally shortly before his death in March 2022.

PERSONAL LIFE

Moses Ebere remained active in the industry into his later years and was preparing to direct a new project in Festac Town around the time of his death. He was buried in his homestead in Isiala Ngwa, Abia State, on 20 May 2022. Industry colleagues expressed shock and paid tributes, describing him as one of the oldest and most experienced veteran directors.
