Lubna Azabal

EARLY LIFE

Lubna Azabal was born on 15 August 1973 in Brussels, Belgium, to a Moroccan father (of Berber background) and a Spanish mother. She was raised in a multicultural, trilingual household speaking French, Spanish, and Berber (Amazigh). She later also performs fluently in English and Arabic. She trained at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she studied acting. She began her professional career on the stage in Belgium before moving into film.

CAREER

Azabal started in theatre in Belgium. Her screen debut came in 1997 in the short film J’adore le cinéma, directed by Vincent Lannoo, opposite Olivier Gourmet. She quickly established herself in French-language and international art-house cinema.
