Kwabena Gyansah is a key figure at Ananse Entertainment, where he serves as Creative Director. He works as a director, producer, and writer, with a focus on authentic Ghanaian storytelling. His breakthrough came with the 2018 drama Azali, which he directed and for which he also contributed to the story. The film, produced by Ananse Entertainment, tells the story of a teenage girl from northern Ghana who escapes an arranged marriage and ends up navigating life in Accra’s slums. Azali became Ghana’s first-ever official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2020. Although it was not nominated, the film achieved significant success: it won multiple awards at the Ghana Movie Awards, was named Best Feature Film at the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF), received recognition at the Golden Movie Awards Africa, and was later acquired by Netflix. The film has received further recognition, including nominations (e.g., AMAA consideration for Best Director) and availability on platforms such as Amazon Prime in certain markets. Additional recent work includes directing the TV series M’asaase (2025). His projects often explore social issues, survival, family dynamics, and Ghanaian life, with a noted emphasis on stories connected to different regions of the country.
