Biography
EARLY LIFE
Buyile Mdladla was born on 25 March 1975 in a village outside Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal. He grew up on his grandfather’s farm, where he herded livestock and took part in crop farming. He developed an interest in acting while in Standard 7 (around junior high school age). After high school at Inkamana High School, he studied dramatic arts at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits School of Dramatic Art).
CAREER
Mdladla’s professional career spans more than 25 years across acting, presenting, and ministry. While in his final year at university he played Charlie “Yardbird” Parker; an agent spotted him and he was cast as Lungile Mabena in the SABC1 soap opera Generations, which brought him early prominence. He also worked as a presenter on the SABC1 youth magazine show Electric Workshop, served as entertainment editor at Drum magazine (until early 2002), hosted the Live Lotto Draw, and was quizmaster on e.tv’s Sports Soccer Challenge. He is widely recognised for hosting the SABC religious programme Spirit Sundae for eight seasons. He credits his faith, professionalism, and resilience for sustaining a long career.
PERSONAL LIFE
Mdladla was previously married to businesswoman Carol Mdladla; the marriage ended in divorce around 2010 after roughly 13 years. The former couple have a child named Bathiyane. Allegations of physical abuse and extramarital affairs (including a public claim involving actress Connie Ferguson) were made by his ex-wife in media reports at the time. He later married Gomoditswe Mdladla. The couple co-lead Redemption Ministries International (based in the Midrand / Glen Austin area of Gauteng). Mdladla has spoken about his faith as a central anchor in his life and career, particularly after turning to Christianity following his divorce. He and his wife have at least one daughter together. He is based in Gauteng
Buyile Mdladla is an ordained pastor and serves as Head Pastor at Redemption Ministries International alongside his wife. He has spoken about how his faith informs his approach to complex or dark roles, viewing them as opportunities to explore the human condition and convey lessons. He continues to work steadily in South African television and streaming productions while maintaining his ministry.
