Biography
EARLY LIFE
Alphonse Menyo was born in Accra, Ghana, where he spent his formative years. He attended the Ghallywood Academy of Film Acting in Accra. His father, Bernard Menyo, hailed from East Africa (specifically Burundi) and was a pioneering filmmaker. His mother, Eugenia Menyo, is Ghanaian and worked for a non-governmental organization (NGO).
CAREER
Alphonse Menyo began his professional career in stage drama in 2009 before transitioning to screen acting with his debut in the American-Ghanaian thriller Freetown (2015). He gained prominence in the Ghanaian film industry through his multifaceted roles as actor, producer, and executive producer, notably helming projects like the 2016 drama Utopia. His performances in short films such as Black Rose (2017) and Corruption (2018) further showcased his versatility. For his starring and producing work in Gold Coast Lounge (2019), he won Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2019 Ghana Movie Awards. Menyo's early television work includes portraying the comic character Ataa Skolo in the series Just Another Day. He directed, wrote, produced, and starred in the short film Perceptions (released 2023). He has represented Ghana internationally, including at the 2019 World Youth Theatre in Egypt, and continues to collaborate with global directors focusing on African storytelling.
