EARLY LIFE

Uzoamaka Power, born Uzoamaka Doris Aniunoh on April 10, 1990, in Onitsha, Nigeria, was raised in Onitsha as the eldest of four children. She received a degree in English and history from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and an MA in creative writing from the University of Birmingham. After her graduate studies, she spent two years in England before returning to Nigeria in 2017. Her relatives include Chidinma Maryjane Aniunoh and Olive Chioma Aniunoh.

CAREER

Uzoamaka Power is a Nigerian actor, writer, and director, known for her starring roles in films such as Mami Wata (2023), The Weekend (2024), and With Difficulty Comes Ease (2024). She won the role of Cynthia in MTV Shuga after attending open auditions and starred in the series from 2018 to 2019. In 2020, she appeared in the special edition MTV Shuga Alone Together, a mini-series involving cast members from Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Ivory Coast, addressing challenges during the Coronavirus pandemic. That year, she also starred in the short film Stuck (2019) alongside Seun Ajayi and Lala Akindoju, and in Africa Magic's period drama Riona (2020), one of the top 5 Nigerian TV series of the year. In Ife (2020), an LGBT love story, she played a lead role and received the Kim Renders Memorial Award for Outstanding Performance at the Reelout Film Festival in 2021.

Born Uzoamaka Aniunoh, she announced in 2025 that she was adopting Power as her professional last name, explaining in an interview with What Kept Me Up that "Power resonates with me on a profound level....It symbolises strength, resilience, and the energy I bring to my craft." She had been using the name informally since 2018 on social media with the hashtag
