Biography
EARLY LIFE
Alexander Ally Karim (born Ally Kimbugwe Karim) was born on 26 May 1976 in Uppsala, Sweden, to a family of Ugandan refugees who arrived in Sweden in 1975 fleeing the regime of Idi Amin. The family eventually settled in Helsingborg (he grew up on Drottninggatan), where his mother Nancy worked hard as a hairdresser to support the children after his father (a businessman) returned to Uganda. He is the youngest of three brothers; his older siblings are directors Othman “Osmond” Karim and Baker Karim. He grew up with a strong interest in film and storytelling, fostered by his family’s love of cinema. After high school he moved to the United States (following his brothers) to train as an actor at City College in Los Angeles and later performed at The Hudson Theater.
