Tough Decision

Nathan has lived with his fiancée Zoe for six months, and he has run out of patience. She will not cook, chases away every maid, and spends his money freely. When he complains, she warns him he will regret losing her, so he tells his friend Hassan he loves her but cannot leave. Hassan says plainly that a woman who will not cook, work, or respect him is not a wife. Street vendor Chisom argued with Nathan after his car splashed her with mud, and he recognizes her later when she brings his change. Anxious for her only son to marry, Mrs DaSilva offers Chisom money for her sick brother's operation if Chisom stays in Nathan's house as a maid for three months. Chisom accepts and moves in. Zoe senses a threat and torments Chisom, forcing her to sleep outside, stand like a statue during meals, and take blame for a ruined shirt. Nathan pleads with Zoe to stop mistreating Chisom, unaware that his mother intended the maid for him. When Nathan falls ill with malaria, Zoe abandons him for a party, and Chisom nurses him back to health. Nathan tells Hassan that Chisom wakes him up in ways Zoe never did, and Hassan says his mother knew exactly what she was doing. Zoe brings her friends to humiliate Chisom. When one calls the maid a bitch and Zoe grabs her arm, Chisom drops her tray and says she is not a slave. Nathan orders Zoe out, so she refuses and insists no common maid will take her ring. Chisom tells Zoe she has only herself to blame, removes her from the compound, and Nathan watches her driven away. Nathan reveals that his mother once whispered Chisom was destined to be his wife. Chisom swears she would not have agreed had she known, though her heart races when he is near. She admits she was afraid to trust him after his indecision and Zoe's cruelty. He promises she is the one he wants forever, and they embrace and kiss as the credits roll.
