Roxy

Roxy, a sex worker in Lagos, prepares for her nightly work while praying for protection from emotional entanglement. Her routine is disrupted when she discovers an unconscious man dumped from a car on the street. With the help of a motorcyclist named Seun, she rushes him to Cityscape Medical Center, where he is admitted as a John Doe. The doctor informs her the patient is responding but requires payment, and Roxy negotiates a partial payment of 25,000 naira. Next morning, neighbors confront her with CCTV footage of the drop-off, and a healthcare worker demands the man's health history, which Roxy cannot provide because she does not know him. When the man later named Boni awakens, he has total memory loss, and the hospital repeatedly contacts Roxy in the hope that her presence will trigger his recall, but she resents the growing obligation. When the doctor insists on discharging Boni into her custody as the only known contact, Roxy refuses and declares her inability to care for a stranger on a prostitute's income, leaving Boni to sleep outside her compound for two nights. An evangelist who mentors Roxy urges her to complete the help as a divine assignment and gifts her condoms for her work. Gradually Roxy relents: she buys Boni clothes, names him Boni, and they share the cash the hospital returned to him. A domestic rhythm forms as Boni washes clothes, fetches water, and accompanies Roxy to church, where he publicly accepts Christianity and thanks her for saving his life. Their bond deepens when Boni secures a promotion at his crate-arranging job, adding bookkeeping duties, and they discuss starting a mobile menswear business. A rainy night forces Roxy to miss work, leading to an intimate but bounded night together in which she permits holding but sets strict limits on sexual contact.
