Storyline

After Deji closed his door in her face, Adanna wore that rejection like a second skin. Her friend Simi, a lawyer, warned her against chasing a man who had already gone cold, but Adanna needed to hear the refusal from his own lips, and she received it standing on his porch while the neighborhood watched. Wandering later into an outdoor art exhibition, she stopped before a canvas and met Tomi, a painter whose quiet attention asked nothing of her. Simi made inquiries through a local woman and reported that Tomi was churchgoing, kind, and volunteered at an orphanage, a clean report that made Adanna more guarded rather than less. On their first date, Adanna wore a red dress meant to test his restraint, yet Tomi only kissed her forehead and walked her home, leaving her more unsettled than passion would have. She invited a paid stranger to their next dinner, a fake ex designed to provoke jealousy, but Tomi recognized the lie and named it gently, telling her he wanted someone done with games. He left her at the table with the check and the weight of her own ingenuity. That weight followed her into a therapist's office, where she began to separate Deji's cruelty from the hope Tomi offered. She confessed her love, and Tomi confessed his, but he said trust was still missing and he could not be her healing project, so they parted. Adanna kept returning to therapy, and when she found Tomi again she did not plead; she showed him the work she had done. He gave her a journal in reply, and she invited him to dinner at her home. Over a shared meal they agreed to take things slowly and abandon their games. Simi arrived mid-evening, rated Tomi a seven and a half, and argued playfully when he disputed the score. By the time the night ended, Adanna stood in the doorway with Tomi's arms around her, the table behind them still holding the plates and glasses of an evening that had asked for no more tricks. The door stayed open.
