In Land Of Dreams, Joke and William are in a loving relationship and engaged to be married. William introduces Joke to his friends Vivian and Essien, and the group travels to a seaside resort for a pre-wedding getaway. Vivian asks Joke to be a bridesmaid, and Joke feels warmly welcomed into the group. She enjoys the bonding and feels optimistic about her future with William. At the resort, strain begins to surface when a woman named Ruth warns Joke that William is a liar and a cheat. Joke confronts William about his past relationship with Sonia, his former university girlfriend who is also Joke's friend. William insists he never cheated and that he ended things with Sonia before meeting Joke, but Joke struggles to trust him. The atmosphere grows more strained as the group plays games and secrets are hinted at. At the wedding ceremony, Joke and William stand at the altar. When the priest asks if anyone has reason to object, Ruth stands up and reveals that William slept with Sonia, the maid of honor. Sonia shamefully apologizes to Joke. Heartbroken and humiliated, Joke runs out of the wedding and ignores William's pleas. After the wedding, she leaves town to stay with an aunt in Lagos, determined to start over. In Lagos, Joke enters a relationship with Stanley, one of William's friends. At a gathering, Joke sees William again, and he has moved on and is now engaged to another woman. Old feelings resurface, and Joke and William share a kiss. Stanley witnesses the kiss, and he breaks up with Joke because she never truly got over William. Joke apologizes to William and the group and admits she acted out of hurt. She wishes she had given William a chance to defend himself. She accepts the emotional cost of her decisions, and then she leaves the gathering.
