Ike

In Ike, Mama Ike is a single mother living with her bright daughter Ike in a Nigerian compound. One night she returns from work and sends Ike to buy eggs from Mama Ngozi. She lays out a new iPad for the girl's tenth birthday, but the girl trips on the dark staircase and knocks herself out. She does not come home. Mama Ike wakes Mama Ngozi and Mama Junior, and the three women search the compound. They find Ike's hair accessory and turn on a tenant named Copper, the man they accuse of involvement. The police arrive, and a detective starts interviewing neighbors. The search spreads. Banky, a DJ returning from a night out, finds Ike's body on the stairs and carries her into his room. He and his friend Kingsley hide the unconscious girl. They try to move her in a bag, but a debt collector called Thunder bursts in. He seizes the bag as collateral for their gambling debt. The man does not know the girl is inside. The detective interrogates Banky about the missing child, and the neighbors trade accusations. Ike is eventually found alive and taken to a hospital. The doctor Femi recognizes her mother. He reveals that he is Ike's biological father, the man who abandoned Mama Ike years ago. Mama Ike confronts him angrily, and they argue. Ike befriends Femi in the hospital before she knows he is her father. When she learns the truth, she asks her mother to forgive him. Mama Ike refuses at first, but Ike pleads. Her mother gives in. Femi apologizes for his years of silence and asks for a second chance. The family begins to reconcile. At home, Ike playfully claims she went missing so her parents would find each other. Mama Ike gathers her daughter and Femi into an embrace, and the three hold one another.
