Vicky Zugah

EARLY LIFE

Victoria Zugah was born on 11 October 1983. She is the third daughter (or third of four children in some accounts) of Mr. Komla Zugah and Miss Beatrice Patu, both from the Volta Region of Ghana. She has spoken of growing up with challenges, including a childhood injury around age 10 that left a scar on her brow after hitting her head on furniture; the wound required stitches and affected hair growth in that area. She has also referenced aspects of an abusive home environment in past interviews. Before acting, she studied cosmetology in Accra with the intention of becoming a beautician.

CAREER

Zugah entered acting after friends encouraged her, noting she had the features and potential for the industry. She had no initial intention of becoming an actress. Her breakthrough came with the film Trokosi, in which she starred alongside Jackie Appiah and the late Suzzy Williams. She has described herself as fortunate to have entered the industry relatively smoothly and has emphasized learning from peers and more experienced actors. She has built a long career in Ghanaian (Ghallywood) cinema with credits including The Return of Beyonce (2006, as Angel), Cross My Heart (2007), My Darling Princess (2008, as Lola), Girls Connection (2008, as Mabel), The King with No Culture / The King without culture (2018, as Ashantua), Inner Woman (2019), Beyond Critical (2022), The Recruitment (2023), and many others such as Total Exchange, June 4, Araba Lawson, Big Girl Club, True Colour, Pretty Queen, Tears of Womanhood, The Bible, Oyaw No, Agatha, Act of Shame, and Mummy’s Daughter. She has also appeared in television work including The Atuu Show. In addition to acting, she has worked as a television presenter, hosting shows such as the Red Light Show (associated with UTV/TV3 in reports) and Real Talk on GHOne TV, where she discusses relationships and lifestyle topics. She continues to act and make public appearances.

PERSONAL LIFE

Zugah is a single mother and has publicly discussed the challenges of single parenting, including societal judgment and labeling. She has shared experiences of past relationships, including a short marriage that ended due to abuse; she has described threats and physical violence from an ex-partner. In more recent years she has spoken candidly about choosing periods of celibacy and the impact this had on dating (noting that multiple men lost interest once they understood her stance). She has appeared at advocacy events related to women’s issues and domestic violence survival. She maintains an active presence on social media, sharing both personal reflections and professional updates.
