Robert Peprah-Gyamfi

EARLY LIFE

Robert Peprah-Gyamfi was born in the small Ghanaian village of Mpintimpi. His birth was not officially registered. As a child he faced significant hardships, including serious illnesses and harsh treatments by traditional healers, as well as the challenges of attending school while travelling long distances along remote bush paths. After completing Sixth Form education in Ghana he travelled to then-West Germany in 1982 under difficult circumstances. He overcame major obstacles in his new environment and gained admission to Hanover Medical School in 1984. He has recounted this journey in autobiographical works such as Medical School at Last!! My Arduous Journey from a Deprived African Village to a Prestigious German Medical School and The Call That Changed My Life.

CAREER

After qualifying as a General Practitioner (Family Doctor) in Germany, Peprah-Gyamfi practised there for a period before relocating to the UK in 2006. He continues to work as a GP while combining medicine with writing, preaching and campaigning. He is a prolific author with more than 25 books (some sources cite 18+ adult titles plus a large children’s list). Themes include Christianity, personal testimony, health education, poverty alleviation, social justice and African history. Notable works and series include: Autobiographical and inspirational titles such as Medical School at Last!!, I Am Not Ashamed of Christ, Seeing God Through the Human Body, and Disability Nightmare Socio-political and justice-focused books including Stop Calling Humans Black & White!, World War II Revisited: Memoirs of a Forced African Conscript, Three Cheers for Ghana, and works on poverty and African development The extensive Kiddy Kiddy Books series for children, centred on the character Kofi Mensah growing up in a Ghanaian village He is the founder of Heaven and Earth International Ministry and engages in radio and internet evangelism. He has also campaigned on historical justice issues, notably the treatment of West African conscripts during World War II, and supports poverty-alleviation initiatives (including through related trusts). A percentage of book proceeds has been directed toward such causes. He plays the role of Kofi, the lead character in the Ghanaian film Legacy Africa.

PERSONAL LIFE

He is married to Rita, whom he describes as a fellow Christian. The couple have three children: Karen, David and Jonathan. The family previously lived in the Düsseldorf area of Germany (Kaarst) before his move to the United Kingdom. He has spoken of a strong sense of duty to give back to his place of birth and to disadvantaged communities, viewing his own escape from poverty as a calling to help others.

Dr Peprah-Gyamfi presents himself as a Christian doctor whose faith informs both his medical practice and his writing. He emphasises themes of providence, perseverance, social justice and the integration of Christian belief with everyday life and African experience. His work bridges medicine, evangelism and advocacy, with a consistent focus on helping disadvantaged communities in Ghana and beyond.
