Biography
EARLY LIFE
Olawale Junaid's parents separated early in his life, leading him to live with various relatives including uncles, aunts, and grandparents. He attended Morlaks Primary School, Iju, Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, and Isonyin Grammar School. His time at a boys-only government college, Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, was marked by bullying, bad company, and academic underperformance. Later, a relative, Mr. Wale Kuku, a retired teacher in Ogun State, took him in and positively influenced his academic performance. He pursued a degree in Political Science at Tai Solarin University of Education.
CAREER
Olawale Junaid began his acting career in 2018 after relocating to Lagos, following his youth service. He started as an extra on 'Jenifa's Diary' and subsequently featured in the web series 'House Helps.' He credits his growth in Nollywood to the support of Joy Isi Bewaji, Uche Jombo, and Funke Akindele, and was associated with Scene One Productions. He has appeared in numerous Nollywood productions, including: 'Aiyetoro Town' (as Corper Ray), 'Symphony' (as Ben), 'One Way' (as Kenneth), 'Itura' (as Larinto), 'Battle On Buka Street' (as Ojo), 'Dr Love series' (as Elijah), 'A Danfo Christmas' (as Tolu, 2024 Prime Video Christmas-themed film), 'Black Monday,' 'Where Is Lisa?', 'N.E.P.A,' and 'Bait.' He has an upcoming role in 'Steal. Kill. Destroy!' in 2025 and is currently working on the Africa Magic series 'The Yard.' Junaid also completed a two-month masterclass at KAP Film and TV Academy to learn directing, where he directed one film. He criticizes the prejudice against developing actors and the declining quality of storytelling in Nollywood, but acknowledges the opportunities provided by streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video. He aims to produce his own films in the future.
PERSONAL LIFE
Olawale Junaid describes himself as an introvert who enjoys going out when opportunities arise. He is a passionate football fan and supports Chelsea Football Club. His hobbies include visiting the gym. He is Afrocentric and enjoys listening to African music, citing Wizkid, Sade Adu, James Brown, Tony Braxton, Fela, Sunny Ade, and Musiliu Haruna Ishola as some of his favorite artists. His role models in acting and filmmaking include Denzel Washington, Femi Adebayo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Tunde Kelani. He is a proponent of women's empowerment, identifying as 'pro-feminism, the positive side of the movement.' He also aspires to open a foundation for children from disadvantaged homes.
