Monsuru Obadina was born and raised in the southwestern region of Nigeria, predominantly populated by the Yoruba ethnic group. His deep grasp of the Yoruba language, culture, and traditions heavily influenced his early path into local theater and eventually on-screen acting.

Monsuru is a veteran and highly respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, specifically within the Yoruba indigenous film sector. He has built a robust filmography over the years. He is recognized for his immense versatility, frequently taking on dynamic roles that range from comedic characters to serious, traditional, and dramatic roles. He earned his most famous moniker, "Ijaiyegbemi," following his stellar performance and involvement in a highly successful movie of the same name. This is a common tradition in the Yoruba movie industry, where actors adopt the names of their breakout or most iconic characters. Beyond acting, Monsuru is a prolific film producer and has spearheaded numerous indigenous movie projects, contributing significantly to the commercial and cultural growth of Nollywood. His notable films include, Ajoke Point One (2004), Omo Elemosho (2012), Monsuru Akeeke, Oro Ife (2022), and Ìrètè: The Reckoning (2026).
