Biography

EARLY LIFE

Don Jazzy was born Michael Collins Ajereh in Umuahia, Abia State, on 26 November 1982. His father is from Isoko in Delta State and his mother is an Igbo princess from Abia State. His family moved to Ajegunle, Lagos, where he was raised. He was educated at Federal Government College Lagos and studied business management at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state. He began playing the bass guitar and piano at age 12. In 2000, his uncle invited him to play drums for a local church in London, where he also worked at McDonald's as a security guard.

CAREER

In 2004, Don Jazzy co-founded Mo' Hits Records with D'banj. He produced albums like 'No Long Thing' and 'Rundown/Funk You Up'. In 2008, he contributed to D'Banj's 'The Entertainer' and Wande Coal's 'Mushin 2 MoHits'. From 2011 to 2013, he was an in-house producer for Kanye West's GOOD Music, working on 'Lift Off' with Jay-Z and Kanye West featuring Beyoncé. In March 2012, Mo' Hits Records disbanded due to artistic differences. On 7 May 2012, Don Jazzy announced Mavin Records, releasing the album 'Solar Plexus' with artists like Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, and D'Prince. He signed Rema in 2019 and Ayra Starr in 2020. In 2012, he appeared in the Nollywood movie 'The Last 3 Digits' and in April 2023, he joined the cast of 'Introducing The Kujus' for its sequel. In 2022, he launched Jazzy Burger with Richard Chinedu Nnadi.

PERSONAL LIFE

Don Jazzy married Michelle Jackson in 2003 and they divorced in 2005 due to his ambitious nature and dedication to music. He has a younger brother, D'Prince, and two other siblings, James Enebeli Collins and Joy Solano. His mother passed away in July 2022 due to cancer. He is a committed member of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
