Biography

EARLY LIFE

Folu Storms was born Ada Afoluwake Ogunkeye on 25 November 1986 in Aguda, Surulere, Lagos State. She grew up in Lagos. She attended Corona School (Victoria Island) for primary education, then The Lagoon Secondary School, followed by St Leonards-Mayfield in the United Kingdom for secondary education. She pursued higher education in law, earning an LLB from Aberystwyth University (University of Wales) between 2005 and 2008, an LLM from the University of Bristol in 2009, and completing qualifications at the Nigerian Law School. She also obtained a diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Pan-African University. As the daughter of a lawyer, she initially followed a legal path, working as a junior associate at the family firm Allan & Ogunkeye (focused on commercial and corporate law) before transitioning into media.

CAREER

Storms began her professional life in law before entering broadcasting in 2012 at 92.3 Inspiration FM. She was a finalist in the MTV Base Africa VJ Search, which led to her joining NdaniTV as a presenter and content producer. There she created and produced shows including The Juice (Season 1), Style Guide, Young C.E.O., and the travel documentary series The New Africa, which earned a nomination (and is widely noted for recognition) at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best Documentary. She co-hosted the Breakfast Show on Smooth 98.1 FM in Lagos (through at least 2019) and has worked with major brands including Oando, United Bank for Africa, Guaranty Trust Bank, and others. She continues as a consultant associate at the law firm Allan & Ogunkeye, applying her entertainment industry experience to legal and policy work. As an actress, her credits include MTV Shuga and the COVID-19 special MTV Shuga Alone Together (as Sope), Unmarried (as Kamsi), The Men’s Club (Season 3, as Tonye), Crime and Justice Lagos (as Kelechi “KC” Farasin / SP Kelechi Farasin), Charge and Bail, Cake (as Mfon), Man of Her Dreams (as Ladi), Price of Admission, Lara and the Beat (as Tina), On the Real (as Chidinma), Fault Lines (as Elizabeth), Baby Farm (Netflix series, as Joy), Red Circle (as Fikayo Holloway), What About Us, Kofa, Inspector K, and others.

PERSONAL LIFE

Folu Storms maintains a relatively private personal life and has spoken about valuing simplicity and balance away from the public eye. She has openly discussed past experiences with heartbreak and the risks of love, while emphasizing personal contentment and advocacy. She is known to enjoy travel, nature (especially beaches and outdoor spaces), and time with her dog, Kekere. She is a passionate advocate for women’s economic empowerment, gender equity, and using media to drive positive social change.

Folu Storms positions herself as a storyteller who helps people “tell better stories about themselves and others.” She balances acting, media work, legal consulting, and advocacy. She remains active across film, television, radio legacy, and digital platforms, with ongoing projects in cinema and streaming.
