EARLY LIFE

Brigitte Millar was born in 1970 in Flensburg, Germany. She is bilingual (native-level German and English) and has family ancestry linked to the renowned German-Danish Expressionist painter Emil Nolde. She has spoken of inheriting a creative inclination from this lineage, though artistic pursuits were initially discouraged in her family; her brother’s encouragement later helped her pursue acting. She completed her A-levels at Fördegymnasium in Germany. After moving toward professional life in the UK, she studied politics and economics at the Polytechnic of Central London before working in roles such as translator and personal assistant. Out of work after redundancy, she considered dance but was steered toward acting, discovering a lasting passion for it.

CAREER

Millar trained formally at the London Centre for Theatre Studies (Diploma in Performing Arts, circa 2003–2006) and continued studies at RADA and other institutions and coaches in London and Los Angeles. Her screen career began in the mid-2000s. Early credits include a journalist in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and the role of Emmeline Vance in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007, directed by David Yates). She appeared as Gertrude in The Wolfman (2010). In 2011 she won Best Supporting Actress at the International Film Festival in Los Angeles for her performance as Amelia Holland in the independent feature David is Dying (directed by Stephen Lloyd Jackson), a film that received multiple awards. Other notable film roles include Kathryn in The Quiet Hour (2014, nominated for Best UK Feature at Raindance), Michelle in Walking with the Ferryman, Rebecca in Run Away with Me, and Claire Winters in the short Nox (2018), for which she later received acting awards including an Award of Merit and Best Actress recognitions at festivals in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and London. She gained wider international recognition as Dr. Vogel, a SPECTRE-affiliated character, in the James Bond films Spectre (2015, directed by Sam Mendes, opposite Daniel Craig and Christoph Waltz) and No Time to Die (2021, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga). Director Sam Mendes has described her as “a very talented and consistent actress.” Television credits include a guest role as Mrs. Tozer in the BBC series Desperate Romantics (2009) and an appearance in Footballers’ Wives. She has also worked in theatre (including productions of A Doll’s House and A Streetcar Named Desire) and voice-over. She continues to work in film, television, and related projects across the UK, Europe, and the United States.

Millar maintains a relatively private personal life. She is based in London with strong professional ties to Germany, Los Angeles, and other European and US locations. She holds valid EU and UK work permissions and has referenced an O-1 visa for US work.
