Aminata Fall

Aminata Fall was a legendary Senegalese actress, singer, and composer who left an indelible mark on African cinema and music. Born on January 29, 1930, in Saint-Louis, Senegal, she passed away on November 24, 2002, at the age of 72. Often remembered as a powerhouse "diva with a golden voice," she seamlessly bridged the worlds of traditional Senegalese music, jazz, blues, and avant-garde filmmaking. Aminata Fall is widely celebrated for her collaborations with the visionary Senegalese director Djibril Diop Mambéty. Her most prominent film credits include Touki Bouki (1973), Le Franc (1994) and The Little Girl Who Sold the Sun (1999). Beyond her acting, Fall was a magnificent vocalist. She performed with the legendary Star Band de Dakar and was highly regarded for her unique ability to fuse traditional African melodies with deep American blues and jazz inflections.
