Love On The Street

In Love On The Street, Elvis, a frustrated university graduate, wanders Lagos after another failed job hunt, venting to a market woman about trekking from Lekki and the futility of fake promises. He falls in with Wasiu, a seasoned bus tout, who takes him under his wing and teaches him to load minivans and hustle passengers on the Lekki-Jakande route. Dr. Steph's brother Dave storms into her home demanding money and turns violent. Elvis and Wasiu come to her defense, and Steph, deeply grateful, invites them to dinner. There, Wasiu is crude and overexcited, yet Elvis is educated and courteous, impressing Steph. Gloria, Elvis's long-suffering girlfriend, grows jealous after seeing the two together. Steph helps Elvis secure a job and a new house, and he spends more time with her. Wasiu confides that he has been sleeping in the van after his stepmother threw him out, so Elvis offers him a room. Gloria confronts Steph at her doorstep and slaps her. Steph responds with dignity and tells Gloria to let Elvis choose. When Elvis finally admits he likes Gloria but does not love her, Gloria leaves heartbroken. At his birthday party, Elvis surprises everyone by kneeling with a ring and publicly proposing to Gloria. In a private moment, he confesses to Steph that he loves Gloria and cannot be with her, and he admits he was a fool. Steph graciously urges Gloria to accept, saying they deserve each other. Elvis kneels before Gloria again, begs forgiveness for the pain he caused, and asks her to build a future together. Gloria accepts. They embrace as the ring is placed on her finger, and the room erupts in applause.
