Ifunaya's Heart

Dexter is a wealthy young man from Lagos. He visits a village on a work trip and sees Ifunaya dancing with her friends. In Ifunaya's Heart, he sends her expensive gifts and a phone through an intermediary. She rejects them all, so he approaches her in person using the name Mohammad. Ifunaya is already promised to Boniface, a man her mother respects, and she mistakes Mohammad for a smooth-talking city boy. He spends time with her and talks honestly, and she falls for him. Her mother catches on and warns her to stop seeing him. Dexter returns to Lagos, and his father expects him to marry Ivette, an heiress to a huge conglomerate. A friend tells Ifunaya who Mohammad really is. She travels to Lagos and confronts him. He admits she was only a fling and tells her to go back. Ifunaya vows to ruin his wedding. Dexter's father insists the marriage must happen to secure the family's future. The engagement to Ivette turns toxic and violent. Ivette insults Dexter and physically abuses him. His father never showed him affection, and he finally reveals that he blames Dexter for his mother's death during childbirth. That truth breaks Dexter's resolve to live for money and approval. He walks away from Ivette in public and rejects the wedding contract his father craves. He drives back to the village. Ifunaya's mother refuses to let him near her, and Ifunaya confronts him while she is still hurt. He confesses he was greedy and foolish to leave her, and he says she is the only one he loves. Then he kneels before the watching villagers and asks her to marry him. Ifunaya is moved by his sincerity and accepts. Their loved ones cheer, and the two reconcile. She decides to enroll in school and learn tailoring, and her mother gives her blessing. Dexter leaves behind his old life, his father's approval, and his wealth-driven ambitions. He commits fully to a future with Ifunaya. They start to build a relationship based on honesty and love rather than status.
