Guarded

At the end of a birthday party, Hilda and Fola return to her apartment. His phone rings while he is away, and she answers it to learn he is married. Fola admits the truth, throws her out, and gives her less than three weeks to leave. Hilda confides in Bassey, then tells her cousin Oyin that she will have a child by herself through a sperm bank. In Guarded, she begins visiting a fertility clinic, moves into a new apartment, and meets Ckay on the road when she rejects his help; he is her landlord. Oyin argues with her about feminism and marriage, and Doctor Nini begins IUI treatment while warning Hilda to rest. At Oyin's request, Ckay keeps checking on Hilda, and despite her bitterness, they grow close enough to kiss and share hospital vigils after she collapses. When the IUI fails, Hilda breaks down, and Ckay consoles her, but she pushes him away, accusing him of pretending to care. She insults him one painful night, and he leaves. Soon after, abdominal pain doubles her over and she collapses at home; Ckay finds her and rushes her to the hospital. Doctor Nini diagnoses ovarian torsion and performs emergency surgery, telling Hilda she may lose an ovary. After surgery, Hilda apologizes to Oyin, admitting that she chased away the people who loved her and misunderstood feminism. She and Oyin find Ckay to apologize, and he tells Hilda he loves her, wanting to walk through her trauma with her. They embrace and kiss, and the three share a joyful moment.
