In Bond And Equity, Dima is a young woman working at a supermarket, and her boyfriend Prosper labours on a construction site. When a manager unfairly fires her, Lance, the son of the supermarket's owner, steps in, dismisses the manager, and drives her home. Dima's home life is strained: her father Okoro is lazy and gambles away money, and her mother angrily struggles to feed the children. Prosper helps where he can, bringing food and money. Lance's wealthy mother arrives at the house and asks for Dima's hand in marriage for her son, promising to change the family's life. Okoro agrees eagerly, Dima's mother objects fiercely, and Dima herself is not ready. She confronts Lance at the supermarket and tells him she loves someone else, and Lance is hurt. His mother later reveals that Lance has terminal lung cancer with only months to live and begs Dima to marry him, promising that she will never regret it and will be rewarded. Feeling pressure from her father and sympathy for Lance, Dima runs away with Prosper to his rural village. There, life is harsh: they are almost penniless, eat only pawpaw, and Dima injures her leg. Prosper struggles to find money for treatment, and their relationship frays as they argue about poverty and the possibility of returning. Prosper bitterly accuses Dima of wanting to go back to Lance. Dima insists she loves Prosper and wants to stay with him. Dima chooses to marry Lance to give him the happiness his mother desperately wanted. They share joyful moments, including a romantic beach date and a quiet life together, but Lance's health rapidly declines. One night, Dima wakes to find Lance unresponsive, and he is rushed to the hospital, where a doctor delivers the devastating news that Lance has died. Dima is inconsolable over the husband she had come to love. Months after Lance's death, his mother thanks Dima for making her son's final days the happiest of his life.
