Balance Sheet

In Balance Sheet, Chikamso buys a green car from dealer Oga Joe for 150,000 naira and celebrates it as a major achievement. Her landlord is furious that she has not paid rent for a year and threatens to evict her by the weekend. The car refuses to start and breaks down repeatedly, and a mechanic says the engine is a 'quarter engine' that needs a full replacement costing 300,000 to 350,000 naira, more than she paid for the car. Through friend Benji, Chikamso is hired as a live-in cook for Harry, a wealthy but gentle man who lives alone. She moves into his house, cooks, and takes care of him. Harry's girlfriend Chantel is intensely jealous and possessive. She confronts Chikamso and warns her never to cook for Harry, then causes public scenes, attacks Harry's security guard, and throws a stone that damages Chikamso's car. Harry tells Chantel it is over and has her banned from the estate. The car keeps leaving Chikamso stranded. David, Harry's mechanic, has it for repairs when someone steals it. She is devastated and feels she has lost everything she worked for.
