A Holiday Affair

Daniel welcomes Suzie home from a trip with a candlelit dinner, rose petals, and a marriage proposal. Suzie accepts, and the couple shares a joyful evening. Joe, an old associate of Daniel, arrives and joins them for dinner, then offers Suzie a senior marketing position at his tech company in Lagos. Suzie hesitates because she has not earned the job, and her discomfort around Joe grows. Later she tells Joe about a painful trip to Ghana, where she discovered her boyfriend was married with three kids, which explains why she has been guarded. When Daniel leaves for a business trip, Suzie is left alone with Joe despite her unease. Joe pursues her openly, reminds her they were involved four years earlier, and asks her to pick up where they left off. Suzie insists she is committed to Daniel, but Joe pressures her, saying the past determines the future. Suzie's friend Lara arrives for a visit and notices Joe's closeness. Suzie admits Joe has a crush on her and that she is trying to control the situation without telling Daniel. Joe continues to corner Suzie and tells her Daniel is not his friend, so no 'bro code' will stop him. Suzie grows increasingly anxious, and a nightmare of Daniel catching her with Joe pushes her to vow to tell Daniel the truth. Suzie confronts Joe and tells him she loves Daniel and their wedding will happen. Joe replies that he will make sure the marriage does not happen. Desperate, Suzie turns to her friends, who advise her to be firm, reject the job, and put distance between herself and Joe. She goes back to Daniel, apologizes for disappearing, and explains that she was overwhelmed. Daniel accepts her apology, and they reconcile. Joe tries one last time, tells Suzie he wanted to ask her out when she left him years ago and that home is wherever she is. She refuses to yield. At the front door, she tells Joe she is no longer afraid to let Daniel know about their past, and Joe walks away.
