EARLY LIFE

Vanessa Onu grew up in a large family of 10 siblings as the tenth and last child. She lost her mother shortly after her own birth and later lost her father. This left her and her siblings with significant challenges. She described herself as a rebellious child during her upbringing and took on multiple responsibilities for her siblings, often acting as different parental figures in one person. She received limited moral and emotional support but occasional material help.

Vanessa Onu began her entertainment journey as a video vixen and dancer, appearing in music videos for artists including Rude Boy, Tunde (Styl-Plus), Koffi Olomide, Peruzzi, Burna Boy, Phyno, and Simi. She was also the first runner-up in the Miss Aviation pageant. She transitioned into acting and has featured in several Nollywood films, including, Busted (2018) — as Teenage Queen, Rising Thunder, Lonely Tears, My Sister and I, Salome, On-locked. She balances her acting career with her full-time role as an officer in the Nigeria Immigration Service through effective time management. Although her family initially disapproved of her entertainment career, they now offer partial support. She is regarded as an up-and-coming actress in Nollywood with a calm and down-to-earth personality.

PERSONAL LIFE

Vanessa Onu is not officially in a relationship but has described her current partner as “the sweetest and kindest man” she knows and loves. She has spoken openly about surviving a rape attempt, which left her with mental scars. She aspires to build a beautiful family and plans to establish an organization that provides homes and work opportunities for homeless children and women.

Vanessa Onu is known for her resilience, having overcome significant personal challenges including the loss of both parents and a traumatic experience. She is passionate about helping vulnerable women and children and continues to pursue acting alongside her civil service job. She describes herself as “cool, calm, and collected” and a lover of food.
