Biography

EARLY LIFE

Tony Umez was born in Ogidi, Anambra State, southeast Nigeria. His mother is from Cross River State while his father is from Ogidi. He grew up in Lagos where he had his primary and secondary education. He holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos. He doesn't speak Igbo, despite his Igbo origin, but fluently speaks Efik, his mother's language.

CAREER

Umez began acting in secondary school, performing in stage plays and dramas. He joined Nollywood in 1993 but left for a few years after not being paid for his first two movies. He returned in 1997 with a role in 'The Princess'. His breakthrough came in 1998 with 'Died Wretched', which propelled him to fame. He also starred in the 2003 blockbuster 'Billionaire's Club' and 'Blood Sisters' in the same year. He has acted in over 200 Nollywood films.

PERSONAL LIFE

Tony Umez is married to Patsy Ogochukwu Umez. They met while filming a church movie where they played spouses, and later married in 1999 after a five-year courtship. They have four daughters: Beautiful, Angel, Princess, and Golden Michelle Umez.
