Olwenya Maina was a celebrated Kenyan actor and voice-over artist who tragically passed away on July 4, 2022, at the age of 34. He rose to widespread fame for his breakout role as "Oti," a charismatic gang leader in the critically acclaimed 2012 film Nairobi Half Life. Olwenya was widely regarded as a game-changer and a benchmark for acting excellence in Kenya's film industry. His most notable performances includeNairobi Half Life (2012), Country Queen (2022). He appeared in Stories of Our Lives (2014), Poacher (2018), Taliya (2021), and the popular TV series MTV Shuga. Outside of on-screen acting, he possessed one of East Africa's most recognizable voices. He served as the prominent station identification voice for Radio Jambo and lent his talents to numerous major commercial soundtracks.

On July 4, 2022, Olwenya collapsed and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Nairobi. A subsequent post-mortem report released by his family revealed that he succumbed to Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a genetic cardiovascular condition that causes the heart muscle to abnormally thicken, restricting its ability to effectively pump blood. His sudden passing prompted an outpouring of grief from Kenyan fans, fellow creatives, and political figures alike.
