Biography

EARLY LIFE

Moyo Lawal was born on 1 January in Badagry, Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria, and is of Yoruba heritage. She received her primary education at Tomobid School in Lagos and attended Lagos State Model College, Kankon, for secondary school. She earned a diploma in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from Lagos State University (Ojo) before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She has described growing up in a warm and loving family that contributed to her upbringing.

CAREER

Lawal began acting in school play productions after encouragement from a friend. She participated in the Next Movie Star reality TV show but did not win. Her professional debut came in the TV series Shallow Waters, where she played Chioma. She gained significant recognition with the role of Chinny in the long-running soap opera Tinsel. In 2012, she won the Revelation of the Year award at the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards. She has also been nominated in categories such as Best Actress in a Lead Role – Yoruba (2018). PERSONAL LIFE

Lawal is currently single and has been open about her experiences with relationships. She has spoken about past challenges in finding lasting partners and has expressed interest in marriage and possibly having children in the future, while also noting that raising children is hard work. She survived a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on 28 October 2013 (while traveling from Asaba to Lagos) and an armed robbery attempt on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. She publicly shared her experiences to raise awareness. In 2023, an intimate video involving her and a former partner (whom she described as an ex-fiancé) was leaked without her consent. She addressed the incident, stating it was recorded privately during a relationship in which marriage was being planned, condemned the unauthorized distribution, and later reflected on personal growth and boundaries. She has also spoken against malicious sharing of unauthorized content and called for greater empathy and professionalism.

Lawal is known for her bold personality, social media engagement, and advocacy around personal experiences such as robbery awareness and privacy violations. She has appeared on Google’s list of most-searched persons in Nigeria (2023). She continues to act in both mainstream and independent Nollywood projects while building her beauty business and sharing insights on relationships, self-growth, and industry challenges.
