Matthew Vey

EARLY LIFE

Matthew Vey was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. He attended Northcliff High School. After high school he was awarded a full scholarship to study acting for film at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles (Burbank, CA). He later returned to South Africa and works out of both Johannesburg and Cape Town.

CAREER

Vey is best known for his role as Michael Sachs in Oliver Hermanus’s critically acclaimed film Moffie (2019), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The film, based on André Carl van der Merwe’s autobiographical novel, explores compulsory military service in apartheid-era South Africa. Subsequent credits include: Brohm in the series Streets & Avenues (2020) and the film There’s No Other One (2021) Randell in This Land (2023) Cosmo in the eVod series Stout / Stout School (2023) Conor Donahue in HBO’s Warrior (2023, 4 episodes) Riley in Invasive (2024, streaming on Tubi) and its follow-up Invasive 2: Getaway (2025) Wesley Du Plessis in the M-Net series Summertide (2024–2025) Brady in Hag (2025) Upcoming: Jimmy Cooper in Remember Me (2027, filming) He also works as a voice-over artist and has performed in theatre, comedy, singing, dancing, and physical theatre.

PERSONAL LIFE

Vey keeps his personal and romantic life private. He is based primarily in Cape Town while maintaining professional ties to Johannesburg.
