Biography
EARLY LIFE
Chinonso Egemba, also known as Egemba Chinonso Fidelis, was born on October 26, 1990, in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. He was raised in Owerri and hails from an Igbo family. He is one of four siblings and attended primary and secondary schools in Imo State. He developed a strong interest in science and health, inspired by observations of community health challenges, which led him to pursue medical education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2015.
CAREER
Egemba began his medical career in 2016 as a resident doctor at Imo State University Teaching Hospital. In 2017, he launched Aproko Doctor, a digital health advocacy platform, sharing health nuggets and wellness tips on social media and known for breaking down medical situations using humor and storytelling. His advocacy focuses on preventive healthcare, mental health awareness, chronic illness management, and sexual and reproductive health. Notable campaigns include Cancer Awareness Drives (2019–2023), COVID-19 Awareness, and Mental Health Awareness Month (2021). In 2020, he founded the 100K Club, a non-profit organization providing health assistance to Nigerians. He is also an actor, featuring in the 2022 Nigerian Netflix movie 'Strain' which raises awareness on Sickle Cell Anemia, starring alongside Bimbo Akintola, Shushu Abubakar, Alex Usifo, and Gloria Anozie-Young. He serves as a brand ambassador for several health-related companies, including Bochepharm Pharmaceuticals and Nkoyo Pharmaceuticals, and co-founded the healthtech startup AwaDoc.
PERSONAL LIFE
In June 2020, Chinonso Egemba married Chiamaka Nwakalor. In December 2022, he publicly shared his struggle with a brain tumour, Craniopharyngioma, which required surgery. He has also been involved in controversies, including Pharmaceutical Partnerships (2022) and Disagreement with Fellow Health Influencers (2021). His collaborations include Linda Ikeji, Uche Jombo, and Dr. Chinonso Chukwudi.
