Biography
EARLY LIFE
Achike Uzoma Udenwa was born on October 20, 1948, in Enugu, Nigeria. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School, Amaifeke, and Sacred Heart School, Odoakpu, Onitsha, where he completed his primary education with distinction in 1961. He pursued higher education at the College of Technology, Enugu, earning a Diploma in Accountancy. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1976 and became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1982.
CAREER
Before entering politics, Udenwa worked in the auditing and construction sectors, serving as an Audit Manager at Peat Marwick, Cassleton Elliott & Co and later as General Manager of Finance at Monier Construction Company. He entered the political arena and served as the Executive Governor of Imo State for two terms from 1999 to 2007. During his tenure, he focused on agriculture, industrialization, and infrastructure under his 'Tripod Vision'. In December 2008, he was appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry by President Umaru Yar'Adua, a position he held until March 2010.
PERSONAL LIFE
Udenwa is a native of Amaifeke in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State. He is married to Chief Mrs. Theresa Agbonma Udenwa, an academic and fellow accountant who served as the Head of Department of Banking and Finance at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. The couple has six children and are devout Christians.
