Storyline
The full story of the movie When Love Prays is full of secret love, family fights and a big lesson at the end. It opens with Hamza and Ifunanya on their way to the Abuja marriage registry. Ifunanya shakes with fear in her white dress. She worries their secret wedding will destroy his family company and her own family. Hamza stays calm and tells her they must decide for themselves now. They walk in holding hands. Hamza comes from a rich Muslim family. His father, Alhaji Suleiman, wants him to marry Aisha for business reasons. Ifunanya comes from a strict Christian home. Her father is Pastor Enoch, and her mother teaches that prayer is the most important thing in marriage. Ifunanya gets her NYSC posting to Bellusman Construction. Her parents thank God until they hear the CEO is a young unmarried Muslim man. They warn her to stay careful and focus only on work. At the office, the CEO is Hamza, her secret boyfriend. He arranged the posting so they can be close. He calls her Zuciyata and loves her deeply. He surprises her with a new Toyota RAV4 car. She tells her parents it is an official company car. Big trouble comes when Hamza refuses to marry Aisha. His father disowns him, takes away his CEO job and kicks him out of the company. Aisha sees the ring on Ifunanya’s finger and explodes in anger. The news reaches both families. Ifunanya’s mother storms Hamza’s house and fights with his mother using religious curses. Still, Hamza and Ifunanya stay together. They have a baby boy. The two grandmothers start secret visits and meet one day. They argue in a funny way about baby food – Miyan Kuka versus Egusi soup. Then tragedy strikes. The baby stops breathing. At the hospital the doctor says he has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and needs open-heart surgery. Both families rush there. The angry fathers and mothers forget their hate. Christians and Muslims pray together for the child. The surgery is a success. The baby lives. This pain brings the families close.
