Storyline

In Nigeria, a rich girl named Adeola grows up very protected by her mom Labake, played by Omotola Jalade Ekeinde. Labake lost a baby before and has PTSD from it, so she keeps Adeola close. After college, Adeola does NYSC and meets Tobi, a smart guy from poor Makoko area. He makes a tech app and they fall in love. This makes Adeola want her own life, away from her dad's strict rules. But her dad gets angry when she wants freedom. Labake must face old lies and grief to save her girl. She stands up strong, not like weak moms in old films. They fight family secrets, like the lost child that made Labake overprotect. Adeola learns about poor life in Makoko and rich Banana Island. She grows tough and finds her voice. Mother's Love shows how moms and first daughters connect across rich and poor. Labake helps Adeola pivot when things go bad, like women do. The romance tests class lines, and Tobi proves poor guys can be good. In the end, Labake heals her pain, Adeola gets independent, and they fix their bond. But not without big fights and tears. The movie, directed by Omotola who also stars, has cast like Noray Nehita as Adeola, Ifeanyi Kalu maybe as Tobi, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex, Olumide Oworu. It shot in hard places like Makoko with water and threats, but done quick. Themes are grief, love, and strong women. It premiered at TIFF in 2025 and plans Lagos show in 2026.
