Biography
EARLY LIFE
Wale Macaulay was a scion of the Herbert Macaulay family, known as the father of Nigerian nationalism. He attended Aunty Ayo’s Preparatory School in Ikoyi and St. Gregory’s College in Lagos. He later traveled to England to study film and television production before returning to Nigeria in the 1990s.
CAREER
A veteran of the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood), Macaulay gained prominence for his role as Dr. Dimeji Taiwo in Tunde Kelani's 2001 film 'Thunderbolt: Magun'. His extensive filmography includes 'Violated' (1996), 'Most Wanted' (1998), 'Small Boy' (2008), and 'The Herbert Macaulay Affair' (2019). He was also a respected stage actor, performing lead roles in 'The Gods Are Not to Blame' and 'Kurunmi'. In the mid-90s, he founded the Christian music choir 'Kazimba', which featured future stars like Sammie Okposo and Yinka Davies.
PERSONAL LIFE
Wale Macaulay was briefly married to the renowned television producer Lola Fani-Kayode. He was a man of deep faith, associated with several Christian ministries including House on the Rock and Winners’ Chapel. He passed away at his residence in Isolo, Lagos, on November 4, 2024, at the age of 65.
