Biography
EARLY LIFE
Tajudeen Oyewole was born in Osogbo in October 1957. He dropped out of primary school and became an apprentice mechanic. He later worked as a commercial driver and was a passionate hunter in the wild forests of Osogbo. His life path changed when he witnessed the late Akin Ogungbe group perform a stage play, leading him to offer unpaid services and eventually join their group. He later moved to Port Harcourt, worked as a taxi driver, and joined the theatre group of the late movie maker Yekini Ajileye.
CAREER
Oyewole gained prominence for his role as 'Abija' in Yekini Ajileye's stage play 'Opa Aje', a character known for being a fearful herbalist who recited incantations and shot guns. He has since acted as Abija in over 50 movies, including 'Opa Aje', 'Koto Orun', 'Aro Meta', 'Ipadabo Abija', 'Ija Eleye', and 'Eyinju Akoni'. His character became so iconic that audiences found it difficult to separate him from Abija.
PERSONAL LIFE
Away from his fearsome on-screen persona, Tajudeen Oyewole is described as an easy-going family man and a devout Muslim with good knowledge of Ifa. In 2007, he was involved in a fatal accident while returning from a film location, which resulted in the death of one passenger and severe injuries to himself and another. After his recovery, he expressed a desire to complete his house and undertake the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. He was gifted a car by a good Samaritan in 2019.
