Biography
EARLY LIFE
Pastor Philip Olubakin was born on 15 December into the family of Chief Oladele Philip Ayinla, who held the traditional title of Omotoro of Owu and lived from 1942 until his death on 20 December 1999. He was the seventh child overall and the fifth son among 14 children in a polygamous household; his mother was the third wife. He began his Christian journey in a Baptist background. He attended Igamode Grammar School in Ota, Ogun State. He later studied Law at Obafemi Awolowo University and completed his legal training at the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus. Before fully entering pastoral ministry, he served as a choir member. Accounts of his background include references to a complex family spiritual heritage that he later left behind upon his conversion and commitment to Christ.
CAREER
Trained as a lawyer, Pastor Philip transitioned into full-time ministry. In March 2019, following what he describes as divine leading while serving in a choir, he founded Supernatural Life Church (SLC) in Abuja, Nigeria. The church began with seven people (himself, his wife, three youth corps members, his sister-in-law Doyin, and a school friend named Femi). He deliberately chose not to draw members from his previous church. Today, SLC is a growing ministry with a mandate “to help believers live life beyond the ordinary” through sound biblical teaching, worship, prayer, and practical Christian living. It holds multiple services in Abuja (with reported gatherings also noted in Lagos and Ibadan) and operates as a global-facing ministry. He is the convener of major spiritual programs including Wind of the Spirit and 28 Days with the Holy Spirit, gatherings focused on the Word, the move of the Holy Spirit, and deeper spiritual experience. He is also active as a pianist, songwriter, and visual artist, using creative gifts alongside preaching. He has authored books including Launch and Maintaining Your Fire, aimed at spiritual growth and revival in the Body of Christ. His teaching emphasizes living in the reality of the supernatural by faith and bringing people to the knowledge of Christ. He frequently appears as a speaker at Christian events and maintains a significant online teaching presence. He also starred in Agbara Nla: The Return (2026) as Olaboye
PERSONAL LIFE
He is married to Pastor Funmi Olubakin. The couple wed on 1 September 2012 and are blessed with three daughters. They co-lead Supernatural Life Church and maintain a public partnership in ministry, with Pastor Funmi also active in marriage counseling, coaching, and women’s ministry. Pastor Philip is known for mentoring young people on marriage, faith, and purposeful living. He and his wife reside in Abuja, where the church is headquartered, and continue to balance family life with expanding ministry responsibilities.
Pastor Philip combines legal training with pastoral and creative callings. He is known for practical, faith-building messages and for mentoring in areas of marriage, purpose, and spiritual vitality. Supernatural Life Church continues to expand its reach through physical gatherings and digital platforms.
