CAREER
Nwamaka Chikezie is an independent film director, writer, filmmaker, screenwriter, and storyteller based in Abuja, Nigeria. Her directorial credits include the thought-provoking independent short films 'Help!' (2021), 'My Mama Na Ashawo' (2022), which was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2022 African International Film Festival, and 'Choices' (2025). She also directed her debut feature film 'To Adaego with Love' (2025), from a screenplay by Brenda Ogbukaa-Garuba. As a writer, Chikezie has contributed to 16 episodes of the Pan-African animated series 'Bino and Fino', the Nigerian adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello titled 'Love's Deceit', 'Charlie and the Boys' (2023), the TV series 'Finding Idara' (2022), and shorts including 'The Session' (2020, story and writer), 'Tip of the Edge' (2020), and 'Golden Rule' (2019, story and writer). She has also worked as an editor on independent documentaries such as 'Displaced', and freelances as an Assistant Director, Script Supervisor, and Continuity person for various film projects, TV shows, commercials, and documentaries. Chikezie is committed to building communities through video partnerships and empowering new and aspiring filmmakers and creatives to tell their stories. She is the co-founder of Hive Film Collective and creator of the Gorilla Filmmaker Project, focusing on bold voices, innovative forms, and radical practices of ethical filmmaking, particularly for Nigerian independent filmmakers.
